DSP STRATEGIES:

THE EMBEDDED CHIP TREND CONTINUES

Report No: 6010

Table of Contents Press Release Price

The market for general-purpose digital signal processor (DSP) chips dipped 2% in 2005 to the $7.6 billion level because of a severe drop in the China cellular market in the first half of that year. Forward Concepts, the premier market research firm following DSP trends, predicts that the market will resume growth to a healthier 15% level in 2006, driven primarily by the 3G and 2.5 cellular markets.

But this new report also profiles and forecasts all other markets for DSP as well and emphasizes the even bigger embedded DSP market. That embedded market has grown to $14.3 billion, or nearly twice that of general-purpose DSP chips. The combined $22 billion market for all DSP-centric integrated circuits represents great opportunities for both chip suppliers and OEM/ODM houses.

Forward Concepts is pleased to offer this as the most comprehensive market study on DSP silicon and IP available, covering both the general-purpose programmable DSP market, and the embedded DSP market which consists of other chip types, including ASSPs, ASICs, FPGAs, RISC/DSP combos, Function-Specific DSPs, MPUs & MCUs with DSP features, and DSP state machines. And we cover them all in this report.

Although the general purpose DSP market is dominated by Texas Instruments, Freescale, Agere Systems and Analog Devices, the embedded DSP market has many more vendors participating and this report profiles the DSP market stance of over 100 chip and core processor vendors. It should be noted that the majority of new product opportunities are in the embedded DSP market.

We believe this is the most comprehensive study available of markets driven by DSP technology, and includes the results from a detailed survey of DSP professionals from over 30 countries.

Uniquely, this is the only market study providing worldwide electronic equipment production data (by region and by market application) and IC and DSP content for each from 2005 through 2010.
